DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a nonapeptide with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu (WAGGDASGE), originally isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood. It is studied for its ability to induce spindle and delta EEG activity, particularly slow-wave (delta) sleep — the deepest and most restorative phase of the sleep cycle.

Rather than acting as a classical sedative, research suggests DSIP works by normalizing rest and recovery patterns. It crosses the blood-brain barrier via a high-affinity saturable transport mechanism and has been shown to stimulate acetyltransferase activity via α1 receptors and interact with the MAPK cascade. DSIP is also investigated in models of stress modulation and circadian regulation.
